Gothic were grateful for a point as Dave Marrison and Julie Horstead proved to be far too quick for us! Peter Holland played very well and was unlucky not to beat Julie.

Fine maximum from Andy Calver ably supported by Wayne Lubbock secured a much needed win for erelegation threatened Taverham B.

Rosebery Road MYC lost to Gothic D 4-6.
Richard had a convincing win over S Andrews to take him to a good maximum. Vernon, still not living up to expectations managed to take Steve to five but lost the decider, but had a good win against Nev waters. Reg struggled as this was his first game since xmas. Eddie had a tight game with Mick Andrews but could not force a draw.

Ex-Choristers B beat Remploy A 6-4.
A double by Ex Choristers B over Remploy A secured some much needed points in their fight against relegation.

EGC Tiles lost to Telephones C 2-8.
Darren Butcher achieved a comprehensive win over Phil Hill, aided to a doubles win by Steve Johnson and Kevin Garner, but these were their only success stories against a solid team effort from Telephones C who have slowly climbed to 3rd in the table.

Wensum A lost to Norwich Union C 4-6.
In a very hard fought match and entertaining game and sportsmanship on both sides, Norwich Union C edged it 6-4 over Wensum A. A special mention goes to Simon Halliday of Wensum for inflicting a rare defeat on Darren Vertigan.

Good match to play in. Good alround performance. sean was unlucky to lose all 3 singles, just a bit of luck here and there and he could have won 1 or 2 games. Good comeback from 5-2 down to pinch 2 points on the doubles and what a nail biter that was.
Match Report - United Norwich Hospitals B v Marsh
United Norwich Hospitals B beat Marsh 9-1.
Good team performance from Utd Hospitals especially another maximum from Adrian Turner. Also good form from Paul Stone playing up in Division 1 for the first time this season.
Potters Leisure Runners Up in VBL Premier Division
Potters Leisure, represented by local players Russell King and Philip Logsdon were runners up in the Veterans British League Premier Division, after completion of the second weekend of competition on 27/28 January.
Thomson Insurance from Northumberland took the title. Potters won four and drew one of its matches in the second weekend, but this was not good enough to catch up the three point deficit on Thomson that the team took into the weekend.

Taverham D drew with Foxwood D 5-5.
Good draw for both teams. Match played in a friendly atmosphere swinging in Taverham's favour one minute then back to Foxwood the next . Good local derby. Good to see Stuart Cooper back after a long lay off due to injury - fitness seems to be his arch enemy at present!

Foxwood C beat Firstline Factors 6-4.
Foxwood inflicted a first defeat of the season on Firstline Factors in a match where all team members contributed. Pride of place must, however, go to Carl Matthewson who attained a singles maximum with some extremely solid play. For the visitors, Peter Wright inflicted a first singles defeat of the season on Adam Smith.

With John Vaughan ill and Kingsley Goffin injured, Taverham C suffered a promotion setback fielding only 3 players albeit gaining a draw thanks to a Stuart Lines Maximum.

Norfolk County Council B beat Millermen 6-4.
A Phil Baker treble not enough to stave off a narrow victory for NCC B for whom Joy Dixon won both her singles.

Telephones too strong for lowly opposition but all good games and pleasant evening

Steve Sadd played well for his two wins but it was not enough to help his new team gain at least a point. A good match played in a sporting manner.

Martin Butcher beat Steve Nichols and Darren Butcher beat Andy Tuddenham to salvage a point for EGC Tiles after being 1-7 behinf. Nanji Koria unbeaten for CEYMS

Remploy B beat YMCA 7-3.
Remploy welcomed back Doug Ratcliffe after injury, in a very hard fought match. Derek Needs and Geoff Critten had a very good doubles vitory to help Remploy to a 7-3 victory.

Taverham E beat Tankards 6-4.
A very sporting match as always between Taverham E and Tankards. A maximum from in-form Dennis Calver gained three points for Taverham.

Scorpions B beat YMCA 8-2.
It was good to see Ocu Ogunnowa back on the table after such a long time. Leszek Zegan played well to win his two singles, but otherwise it was all Scorpions.

Gothic got off to a good start when Alan Hough beat Wally Ladmore but then Sands took total control winning the remainder of games.Phil Clarke getting a rare maximum.

Norwich Union A continue their bad run of results with a draw and seven defeats in the last eight matches. The next three games are crucial and hold the key to staying up.
Match Report - Norwich Union B v Hellesdon
Norwich Union B drew with Hellesdon 5-5.
Draw specialists Union B and Hellesdon fought out a predictable draw at Pinebanks. Andy Broughton was the star of the evening with a well deserved singles maximum and took his side to the brink of their first victory of the season. Hellesdon kept fighting back with Mel Humphries and John Howlett each winning a brace and teaming up in the doubles to take home a share of the spoils. Game of the evening was Phil Henry's five setter with Roger Crossfield ending 16-14 in the fifth in favour of the home player.

Long Stratton beat Shelly Telly 8-2.
The Long Stratton lads won comfortably in a good humoured game. Jenkinson still shines for Shelly Telly and Shelly's new boy Greg Brown played some good points.

A superb team performance by Wensum C to beat an excellent and strong team from Long Stratton.

The doubles pairing of Sue Eldridge & Mark Miller combined well to earn Hethersett a deserved draw.

J Vaughan called for a drugs test on Dave Marrison after losing to him. A good evening, evenly matched teams with Taverham fighting back from 2-5 to secure a share of the points.

Taverham E lost to Norwich Union D 3-7.
Taverham E unluckily down to 3 players in this rearranged match. Margaret Calver taken ill just before the match; too late to find a replacement. A very sporting match with Lawson Fiddy much improved since last season. (Dennis Calver)

A very young team; two 17 year olds, Marcus and Matthew with Rhodri and Alexander still at school. They made their older and more experienced opponents work hard for their win with young Alex saving the whitewash with a win over Darren Vertigan. (A Willimot)

Remploy B beat Wensum A 7-3.
Very enjoyable evening had by all in a very close match in which Remploy edged home with Peter Downing playing from his wheelchair winning the deciding game 2, -9, 5, 8. Note from Div. Sec. Actual result was 6-4 with Howard Jones playing for Wensum A, but he had already played in Week 4 for the B team; therefore his win cannot count.

Telephones C beat Ex-Choristers A 6-4.
Another great evenings table tennis which any side could have won. With Dave Holman and Stuart Henning winning both singles and the doubles, Telephones just managed the win. Andy Cullum played well for the visitors.

A close match with Rob Pennell scoring a maximum for the visitors and Stuart Henning winning both games to edge the win for the home side.
Match Report - Hellesdon v CEYMS C
Hellesdon beat CEYMS C 6-4.
Hellesdon took full advantage of a below strength CEYMS and inflicted a first defeat on the runaway leaders. Steve Pendle's maximum could not stop a rejuvenated Hellesdon from hitting top form. John Howlett and Mel Humphries both had five set wins over Keith (Barmy Army) Hunt who was suffering from jet lag after watching the Ashes in the land of oz. Howlett and Crossfield teamed up to take the doubles and the match after trailing 0-2 in sets.

CEYMS A beat Park Lane A 6-4.
A superb maximum from Matts Olsson gave CEYMS a vital win over the reigning champions Park Lane. 2 games and 0-4 down in the third against Phil Logsdon, Matts stepped up a gear and fully deserved his victory. Well supported by Ian McLean who lost his 100% record to Phil during the match the win keeps CEYMS in pole position for the League title.
Pilch come and try on 13th January - in store
On Saturday 13th January, from 10am to 2pm, a posse of players will be undertaking a demonstration in the Pilch store.
Come and try, come and watch, or just come and have a giggle.
There will be a come and try session, an exhibition session, and a play for prizes piece.
