Taverham A lost to Park Lane A 4-6.
Park Lane in a very hard fought & entertaining match just managed a 6-4 win over title challengers Taverham A. Phil Logsdon was the hero for Park Lane win a singles maximum, he then combined with Steven Howlett to take a very close doubles against Norwich Champions Spink & Dare 11-9 in fifth game to take the match. Lauren took two singles, she was ably supported by John Monk who also took a brace. Fred Dove despite an epic game against Logsdon just losing in the fifth failed to register a win.

Foxwood C lost to Hellesdon 3-7.
Hellesdon get back to winning ways in the usual sporting encounter with Foxwood C. John Howlett gained revenge on Adam Smith with a three set win in the opening game of the night. This gave Hellesdon a lead they would not lose. Carl Matthewson had two cracking games, going down 9-11 to John Howlett in the fifth and edging home 11-9 in the fifth against Mel Humphries, games that could have gone either way. Skipper Roger Crossfield struggling to find his his early season form weighed in with one win for the visitors.

UEA A drew with Telephones B 5-5.
A fantastic match with six 5-setters. Nick Pullen won all three to help UEA achieve a 5-5 draw against Telephones B. There was some excellent table tennis played by all and the draw was a fair result at the end.

After Colin Jenkinson's shock defeat last week (he waws ill - honest!) Shelly Telly were forced to take drastic action to ensure they retainedtheir status as team with an unbeatable player. Tonight's match saw the debut of Jeanette Baxter. Its been 20 years since she played competative table tennis and she's been coaxed out of retirement by Shelly Telly's fun and friendly monthly club nights. Baxter has a baptism of fire - her first game was against veteran John Williams hho used all the weapons in his arsenal to try and defeat her. We were on the edge of our seats as they duelled relentlessly. Baxter finally beat him in 5 sets. She completed her maximum with a win against young James Ridgeon who was so delighted with the recently replemished Shelly Telly refreshments bag that he ate a dozen bars of chocolate between games. The young lads of Newton Flotman are improving at lightning speed and David Hawkes was very impressive against Savage and Cunningham. Shelly Telly came away with a draw and the message is "watch out division 4". With Baxter and Jenkinson in the team, the only way is up!!

Second maximum of the week for Darren Barnard, despite not feeling 100%, also a welcome return to form for Seamus Chambers who recorded a fine three wins over a good standard opposition from Gothic. Maximum points for Hospitals as they climb the table into the top two.

A good all round performance from the Taverham team to edge home in this top of the table clash. Mel Humphries played well for the home side who kept battling to the end. Taverham remain unbeaten in their quest for the title.

Missionaries drew with Ex-Choristers A 5-5.
With the two teams lying 3rd and 4th it was always going to be a tight match. From 3-3, Missionaries pulled ahead 5-3. As the winning post was in sight, Barry Graver spoiled Andy Watson's chance of gaining a maximum. Ex-Choristers then went on to tie the match with a thrilling doubles win.

A brace from Andy Bonham and a doubles win at the end fron Bonham and Steve Nichols over Phil Henry and Andy Broughton earned CEYMS D a point against league leaders Norwich Union B. Mark Trett was unbeaten for Norwich Union.

In Premier B of the Grant Matthewson Norwich & District Table Tennis League, Taverham B move back to top spot after a crushing 9-1 win over Firstline Factors, with only a doubles win saving a whitewash for Firstline. Still unbeaten after thirteen matches Taverham are looking good for promotion if they display this form in the final weeks. Sands B  had a convincing win against Norwich Union A at the Miller Hall with skipper Neville Beckett scoring a maximum in the process. Gothic C are rooted to the foot of the table, following a 3-7 home reverse at the hands of second placed Hellesdon who had Mel Humphries and John Howlett in good form. Alan Hough helped save a point for Gothic with a brace of wins.

In Division 1 it was nip and tuck all the way in a 5-5 draw between Telephones B and Taverham C with Stewart Lines unbeaten again. Andy Broughton played well for a maximum when Norwich Union beat Missionaries 8-2. Maximums for Mark Ring and Jeremy Cocks when Telephones B beat Easton A. CEYMS were disappointed to let a 5 - 1 lead slip to a draw with UEA A in a closely fought contest. Marsh's Nigel Metcalf was voted the man of the match when they beat Ex-Choristers 7-3, winning all three. In a more successful outing for Ex-Choristers against Norwich Union Stewart Lines defeated Mark Trett in a fast and furious game. Two man Briston D went down 4-6 to Electricity and Missionaries and Briston E fought out a 5-5 draw.  Marsh scored a rare victory beating UEA A 8-2, Bill Watts winning all 3. In an entertaining match Ex-Choristers A beat Briston D 7-3, only Tony Atkins' immense experience brought him a victory against the improving Paul Arthurs. Missionaries secured a 6-4 victory over Electricity. Richard Westgate and Andy Watson won two each and combined to win the doubles. Dave Fordham won 3 for Electricity with Keith Meader adding the fourth. 5 - 5 a fair result between Telephones B and CEYMS D. All hinged on the battle of the number 1's - Andy Bonham just edging it against Mark Ring 13 - 11 in the 5th.

In Division 2, Hospitals B are still top, cruising to victory over a 3-man CEYMS E 9-1 with Kevin Garner surprising Brian Scurfield.  Wensum A hammered Telephones C 9-1, elevating them to within a point of the top.  Ex-Choristers B stay cemented at the bottom with defeats, 7-3 by NCC B and 9-1 by Taverham D.  Remploy A beat lowly Gothic D 8-2 in their third victory on the trot.

In Division 3 Rosebery Road MYC move above Telephones 'D' with a 4 pointer win over Club 75 (10-0) and then drawing with Telephones 'D'  where Richard Yates had good wins over Bob Weston and Barry Howes .UEA 'B' achieved their first 4 pointer beating bottom club Fairfield Scorpions 9-1 who now look certain to drop down this season. Ocu Oggonowa saved the whitewash with a good win over Sarah Ingram.  Dynamic Rams fought out an excellent game with Thorpe St Andrew winning 8-2, with Keith Parnell and Martin Edwards leading the way with fine wins. Briston 'F' had two good wins over Fairfield Scorpions 8-2 and Newton Flotman 'A' 6-4, Tom Nudd received acclaim for some fantastic play on the night. Norwich Union 'C' whitewashed a 3 man Easton 'B' side 10-0,. Easton earlier had fought out a hard draw against a 3 man Remploy 'B' side who had Roy Hatton in good form.

In Division 4 Long Stratton lost 3- 7 to Taverham E. Ashley Crowe with a maximum for Long Stratton and Adam Thompson and Dennis Calver with maximums for Taverham.  A good away win 3-7 at Taverham E for Wensum B. Maximums for Rod Edwards for Taverham and the ever improving Darren Hubbard for Wensum. In the all Newton Flotman battle the B "boys" were clear victors over the C "girls" team 10-0. "Do different" is the motto of UEA; however these boys did the same as everyone else - they beat Shelly Telly 8-2!! Colin Jenkinson dropped a game to UEA's Rob Hill but quickly regained his composure to win the tie.  A hard fought draw between Wensum C and YMCA saw Leszek Zegan for YMCA and Daniel Atkins and Andrew Latham for Wensum C with maximums. Highlight of the week was Wensum D 9 v Shelly Telly 1. The improving Chelsea Sadd, Charlie Sadd, Andrew Latham and Daniel Atkins were too strong on the day. However, shock news is that Colin Jenkinson was beaten for the first time this season by Jason Evans from Wensum.

A match played in the spirit of the game. All the Shelly girls played well but an in form Chelsea Sadd who despite her Dad's influence seems to be getting better every game. Colin Jenkinson was beaten for the first time this season by Jason Evans. A great night had by all.

Hellesdon return to winning ways after two defeats in an enjoyable match at old friends Gothic. Wendy Durrant of Gothic, still suffering with the after effects of a very bad virus managed one singles win in a very close game with Roger Crossfield . Alan Hough helping with two wins, coming back from 6-9 in the fifth to edge home against Mel Humphries. John Howlett showed a glimpse of his old form with three wins for Hellesdon.

Sands got away to an early lead, going 2-0 up. Union levelled the score at 2-2. Neville Beckett beat Bob King 3-1, including a 11-0 win in the 4th leg to put Sands in front again. After this Union seemed to fade away with Sands taking all the remaining games. Nev Beckett winning a maximum in the process.

This was a hard fought match with a lot of good and entertaining table tennis. After the first hour only 3 games were played - all 5 setters. Only Tonnt Atkins immense experience brought him a narrow victory against the improving Paul Arthurs. Th accumulated points score for their match was 71 - 66. Ex-Choristers ended 7 - 3 winners by 11pm.

In a very entertaining match Briston A were very unlucky not to take at least a point from this encounter. Logsdon was in excellent form winning comfortably. Thaxter & Rudley gained the only wins for Briston easily defeating no power Henderson.Hancock and Howlett had an excellent match with Howlett's experience! gaining the upper hand 11-7 in the fifth.

In Premier A of the Grant Matthewson Norwich & District Table Tennis League a top of the table clash between CEYMS A & Foxwood resulted in a very close hard fought match, with CEYMS A getting home by the skin of their teeth 6-4, In a good overall team performance, hero for CEYMS A was Ove Karlsson with a maximum 3 singles wins, his best result was to beat Jon Cockburn comprehensively 11-8 11-8 11-5. A brace from Mats Olsson and a single win from Russell King over Steve Sadd ensured CEYMS an impressive win to move within 1 point of Foxwood A with 6 games left.

In Division 2, UN Hospitals B welcomed back Bryan Scurfield to the table and duly whitewashed luckless Ex-Choristers B. Wensum A demolished Millermen to continue their promotion pursuit. Maximums from Matt and Ian Howlett secured Holburn's second victory of the season over a declining CEYMS E. Fairfield Scorpions A march on with a 7-3 victory over Telephones C to secure their 8th consecutive victory with a fine team effort including a maximum from Eric Thornton, with Dom Clarke shining for Telephones. Taverham D beat lowly Gothic D with Rob Drake, Gary Hardy and Greg Smith to the fore. George Sangarde inspired Remploy A to a welcome double over NCC B to maintain 6th spot.

In Division 3, UEA 'B' back after the Xmas break caught up with outstanding fixtures achieving two good draws against Fairfield Scorpions 'B' and Remploy 'B'. Unfortunately they also lost 2 games badly 8-2 and 9-1 against Dynamic Rams and Norwich Union ‘C'. Union had Steve Thorne rampant on the night with some excellent play. Telephones 'D' jumped back to lead the divisional table with excellent wins over Newton Flotman 'A' (7-3) where Chris Thirtle helped with a fine maximum, and away to Fairfield Scorpions 'B' (9-1). Rosebery Road Methodist YC keep in 3rd spot thanks to some good play by Richard Yeates who achieved a rare win over Union's Steve Howard in his teams 7-3 win. Ross Grey led a 3 man Briston 'F' side to a good draw with Dynamic Rams.

In the top of the table clash, CEYMS A just edged home 6-4, to close the gap on league leaders Foxwood A to one point. In a good overall team performance from CEYMS, the hero for CEYMS was 3 set winner Ove Karlsson. Ably supported by Matts Olsson who won 2 singles. Jon Cockburn for Foxwood lacked support after gaining 2 sinles win plus the doubles with Steve Sadd. An out of sorts Andy Hawes failed to register on the score sheet despite some very close games for the first time this season.

Against Union, who had defeated us 8 - 2 at Pinebanks, we were determined to do better and we did. Stewart came back from 2 - 0 down agains Mark to win 3 - 2 ina fast, furious and heavy hitting game. JV couldn't match this and went down 2 - 3, and the match stood at 5 - 3 in favour of the Union.Stewart completed a maximuim but he and JV could not repeat the doubles heroics of last week. A good match.

Match Report - Newton Flotman B v Wensum C

30/01/2008, played at Newton Flotman Village Hall.
Newton Flotman B beat Wensum C 6-4.
Newton Flotman B youngsters James Ridgeon put in a good win against Stephen Harsley and David Hawkes beat Aubrey Willmott to put Newton Flotman B 3-1 up. Wensum then levelled winning both doubles. In the first doubles Aubrey Willmott was in top form for Wensum putting his attacking shots away for winners. The 2nd doubles pair Tim Mills and Stephen Harsley won 12-10 in the 5th. Newton Flotman skipper John Williams got the better of Simon Halliday for Flotman to go 4-3 up. Wensum youngster Stephen Harsley beat David Hawkes to level again at 4-4. James Ridgeon then beat Tim Mills and Clive Williams got the winner beating Aubrey Willmott.

Newton Flotman C were without 4 players from their squad and gave a league debut to new signing Mark Bunting. The Long Stratton team Ashley Crowe, Adam Myhill, Kyle Bedwell and Ryan Faulkner a good young team a;; under 18 played well. Player of the match Kyle Bedwell.

Match Report - UEA D v Wensum B

20/12/2007, played at Sports Hall.
UEA D lost to Wensum B 0-10.
A sporting match was had by all and a special mention to UEA D who were very sporting in defeat and surely will improve as the season goes on.

Marsh lost to CEYMS D 2-8.
Bill Watts provided the upset of the night by beating Andy Bonham but the match was over by then.

Match Report - Foxwood C v Panthers

29/01/2008, played at Foxwood Guest House.
Foxwood C lost to Panthers 4-6.
Adam Smith was the star player on show for Foxwood with a maximum, but this could not prevent his side going down to a Panthers side who had greater strength in depth.
