In the battle of the Briston teams the B team gained an unlikely win, their first win of the season in Premier A. In a very close match, the doubles decided it with the B team winning 11-9 in the fourth set.Robin Thaxter had an off night losing all his games, Jon Hancock & Jerry Rudley took 2 singles each for the A side. The B side had a good overall team performance with Howard Lupton and John Paul winning two singles each, then combining to take the doubles. Paul Warner crucial win over Robin Thaxter 13-11 in the fifth proved decisive for the B side in gaining the win.

A maximum from Steve Nichols helped earn a draw for CEYMS D. Andy Watson and Richard Westgate won two singles each for Missionaries.

Wensum D drew with Norwich Union D 5-5.
A great comeback from wensum D, who were 5-1 down and looking like its all over. Then the youngsters showed their class. Charlie Sadd showed what a great talent he is and defeated the experienced John Robertson (Senior). Sean Bhadrinath was superb in defeating Steve Ogle. Peter Evans won the last game to secure a 5-5 draw.

Sands B lost to United Norwich Hospitals A 4-6.
Sands went 2 down then Peter Read beat Adrian Turner to put the home side in the match. After some close games Sands got back to 4-4 and Darren Barnard beat Peter Read to give Hospitals the lead and complete his maximum. Hospitals edged home in the doubles to take a narrow victory and three points in their quest for promotion.

In a hard fought match Hellesdon came out on top with a good all round team performance with a fine maximum from Francis Webb. Several close games with Hellesdon winning the majority.

Excellent match with lots of attacking play and reverse of first half score. Roy Hatton maximum and both doubles the deciding factor.

An all round team effort saw Hospitals B defeat Scorpions 7-3 with Alan Pulsford securing a maximum. Eric Thornton battled bravely for the losers with 2 fine singles wins.

Holburn drew with Norfolk County Council B 5-5.
In a match that fielded four lady players with two on each side (when did this last happen) the honours were shared with a draw being a fair result. Mark Wilson and Matt Howlett steered Holburn to a share of the spoils with Joy Dixon winning all three of her ties for NCC.

In Premier B, Hospitals A take another step towards second place and promotion to Premier A after a very close 6-4 win at mid-table Panthers. Despite a fine maximum from Panther's Peter Mathieson, Hospitals kept their nerve to win the doubles and three points. Gothic C climb off the foot of the table after a fine 7-3 win at Sands, with Wendy Durrant regaining some form with three singles wins.
Norwich Union continued their impressive push for the Division 1 title with a 9-1 victory over struggling Marsh, James Olsson and Mark Trett both winning maximums. Ex-Choristers A went down 2-8 to CEYMS D with Andy Bonham winning all 3 for the visitors, Andy Tuddenham and Nanji Korja chipping in two a piece. Paul Arthurs the only Ex-Choristers player to get wins on the board. Dave Fordham won 3 and Keith Meader 2 for Electricity as they fought out a draw with UEA A whose Sandeep Nene won 2. A below-par Missionaries beat Marsh 6-4 with all three players Mary Sawyer, Andy Watson and Richard Westgate winning 2.
In Division 2, U N Hospitals B clinched promotion after beating third placed Telephones C 7-3, retaining their unbeaten run. Wensum A look set to join them after demolishing NCC B 9-1, Joy Dixon saving the whitewash. The future looks bright for Holburn who piled more agony on Ex-Choristers B to the tune of 9-1. A final game victory saw Fairfield Scorpions A just edge out Gothic D 6-4.
Foxwood 'D' bounced back to the top of Division 3 with a great away win at Rosebery Road MYC. Maximums for Stuart Cooper, James Thiess and Ian Layt ensured the 4 points went towards their promotion push. Remploy 'B' picked up some good points too beating bottom club Fairfield Scorpions 'B' 6-4 thanks to a Carl Cowles maximum, and then drawing with Club 75. Norwich Union ‘C', saying goodbye to their home venue Pinebanks, left in glory beating the strong, developing Briston 'F' side 6-4. Marty White and Steve Thorne saw them home with two good wins to take 3 welcome points.
In Division 4, Shelly Telly feel they are turning a corner - they picked up another two points in a good humoured draw against Taverham E. New girl Jeanette Baxter beat Rod Edwards and Dennis Calver and formed a formidable doubles partnership with Colin Jenkinson, who was on great form as usual. Octogenarian Reg Juett had fun, beating Michelle Savage and Diana Cunningham in straight sets. Shelly Telly only lost 4-6 to UEA C with Diana Cunningham triumphing in a thrilling 5 setter with Jin Meng. Wensum C gained maximum points with a 9-1 victory over Newton Flotman C, Nathan Stewart, Tim Mills and Stephen Harsley all winning maximums. Claire Williams saved the whitewash for Newton Flotman. Norwich Union put 4 more points on the board with a 9-1 win over Long Stratton. Kyle Bedwell on this occasion the only Long Stratton player to put a win on the board. UEA C started strongly against YMCA, but the visitors rallied to take the second batch of singles and win 6-4.
Wensum B kept up their push for the title beating UEA D 10-0 but need keep the pressure on to keep the impressive Norwich Union team from grabbing the spoils.

Gothic C lost to Taverham B 3-7.
Gothic woke up in the second half of this match with singles wins from Alan Hough and Wendy Durrant, plus the doubles. Taverham B have all but secured the title and promotion to Premier A following this three points.
Match Report - Firstline Factors v Sands B
Firstline Factors lost to Sands B 1-9.
Firstline trounced by Sands B in a match where Firstline were on the wrong end of many 9-11 scores. Three of these were in the fifth set where Sands just edged home. Only Alan walpole saved the whitewash with a close five setter over Peter Read.

Sands A beat CEYMS C 7-3.
Frank Hayward starred for Sands A with his first maximum of the season, ably supported with new rubbers! In a good team perfomance, Sands A won 7-3 with 2 wins for Molloy and one for Brown, Sean & Ian combined in the doubles to win in four sets. Hight light for CEYMS C was Stuart Langridge's comprehensive 3-0 win over Sean.

Birthday girl Mary Sawyer can count herself very unlucky not to get a maximum. Having won two singles she lost 9-11 in the fifth to Stewart Lines, probably the best player in the division. Taverham ran out 7-3 winners.

Steve Pendle was the star for CEYMS with 2 singles wins and teaming up in the doubles Keith Hunt to take the doubles 12-10 in the fifth to gain the draw.

A very close match but enjoyable. Taverhams number 1 had to call off about 6 o'clock with a stomach bug. Steve Crabtree came to our rescue at 7.15pm. Simon played well to gain a maximum.

Newton Flotman B lost to Long Stratton 3-7.
John Williams beat Kyle Bedwell in the first game of the night. The Long Stratton youngsters Ashley Crowe, Adam Myhill, Ryan Faulkner won one each to put Long Stratton 3-1 up. The first doubles was a marathon 5 setter with Long Stratton winning 16-14 in the fifth. They won the second doubles to go 5-1 up. John Williams beat Ashley Crowe to win both his singles. For Newton Flotman James Ridgeon, recently promoted up the playing order, beat Adam Myhill. Long Stratton won the match when Kyle Bedwell beat Clive Williams and Ryan Faulkner beat David Hawkes for a Long Stratton 7-3 win.

A full strength Holburn crushed Ex Choristers with only Reg Barber fighting back to beat Ashleigh Smith in 5 games.

A last game victory by Eric Thornton edged Fairfield Scorpions to a narrow victory over Gothic D for whom Steve Andrews fought hard to take both his singles.

Shelly Telly's fist win of the season in this bottom of the table clash. A maxiumum from Colin Jenkinson and a singles win apiece from Diana Cunningham, Michelle Savage and Wendy Hicks. Consolation wins for Newton Flotman from Ruth Bullard, Emma Williams and 13 year old Molly Bruton.

Briston B earned a well deserved draw against Foxwood B to avoid losing for the first time this season, an excellent result for Briston B. Howard Lupton & John Paul were the heroes for Briston B with a brace each plus combining in the doubles to gain the draw. Paul Speakman and Dan Gigli saved the blushes for Foxwood with 2 wins each. It was great to see Mark Wortly playing an important singles win to avoid the defeat.

An excellent performance from Hospitals, saw them take 3 points. Only Peter Mathieson kept his side in the hunt with an inspired performance.

With some very close games, Sands never got a lead in the match. Three excellent wins from Wendy Durrant helped Gothic to a deserved win. For Sands, Peter Read played well to beat Alan Hough in the fifth leg to earn Sands a point.

In Premier A of the Grant Matthewson Norwich & District Table Tennis League, Taverham A's title ambitions were finally dashed as they crashed to a 6-4 defeat against Sands A, Lauren Spink starred for Taverham with 3 singles wins plus taking the doubles with John Monk. However a good team performance from Sands with Molloy, Broughton & Hayward winning a brace each ensured victory for Sands A. Gothic A confirmed their mid table status with a 7-3 victory over Briston A and a draw with Sands A. Chris Durrant showed excellent form for Gothic taking 5 singles wins out 6 played. Sean Molloy took a maximum and the doubles for Sands A to ensure the spoils were shared against Gothic A.
Premier B champions elect Taverham B edged home 6-4 against a resolute Norwich Union A in one of the final games to be played at Pinebanks. Wayne Lubbock in maximum form for Taverham whilst league president Bob King rolled back the years with a fine brace for Union. Taverham had to rely on the doubles to secure victory. Gothic C suffered another defeat, this time to Norwich Union A by a 4-6 reverse. Joe Taplin was drafted in to the Gothic team and played his part with a fine maximum but his colleagues could not assist. Mel Rooney played very well as he scored a hat trick of singles wins for Panthers in a 7-3 victory at Hellesdon, helped by the consistent Peter Mathieson,
The top two teams in Division 2, U N Hospitals B and Wensum A, completed maximum victories over Gothic D and Ex-Choristers respectively in their pursuit for promotion. Telephones C are keeping up the pressure in third place with Taverham D on the climb and are on course for a top half position. Fairfield Scorpions A let slip a 4-1 lead over NCC B who recovered to gain a well-earned draw. Remploy A edged out a Mark Wilson inspired Holburn with a solid team effort.
Division 1 headlines this week must go to Norwich Union B who whitewashed Telephones B, their closet rivals, 10-0. Three games in the evening went to 5 but otherwise an impressive victory for the regular Norwich Union team of Mark Trett, Phil Henry and Andy Broughton. Telephones teams of Mark Ring, Graham King and Andy Burton had their chances in the 5 setters but couldn't clinch them on the night. Norwich Union are now are now near certainties for promotion. A Sandeep Nene maximum ensured that UEA A beat Briston E 7-3. CEYMS D lost 4-6 to Electricity for whom Dave Fordham gained a maximum and Taverham C lost 4-6 to Briston D despite a fine maximum for Stewart Lines. A brought-forward match saw a good 7-3 victory UEA A over Ex-Choristers A with Sandeep Nene again scoring a treble including a tight 5 set victory over Andy Cullum.
In Division 3, Telephones 'D' and Foxwood 'D' continue to battle it out for top spot in the division. Telephones lead with more games played and an excellent 4 pointer against Norwich Union 'C' 9-1. Foxwood, catching up with their fixtures, beat bottom club Fairfield Scorpions 'B' 9-1, Newton Flotman 'A' 6-4 and UEA 'B' 7-3. Stuart Cooper seems back in form after his operation, achieving maximums . UEA 'B' playing all their games early prior to exam time had a good 7-3 win against Dynamic Rams but then succumbed 8-2 to Briston 'F' 8-2 . Chris Asque, for the students achieved a rare win against Ross Grey hence saving a whitewash on the night.
Division 4 featured a top of the table clash between Wensum B and Norwich Union D that ended in a 6-4 victory for Wensum. The young Wensum team of Alexander and Rhodri Oliver, Darren Hubbard and Nathan Stewart went into a 3-1 with NU's John Robertson Snr winning the 1. With the doubles one-a-piece,and the score at 4-2, Alexander inflicted only the second defeat of the season on John Williams, in a very tight 5 set match to take Wensum to 5-2. John Robertson Snr then overcame Rhodri 13- 11 in the 5th and John Robertson Jnr won in 4 against Darren Hubbard. In the crucial last match. Nathan Stewart played his best game this season to beat Steve Ogle 11-8 in the fifth to win the match for Wensum and vital points in their quest for promotion although N U are still favourites for the top spot. Shelly Telly enjoyed their first win of the season 7-3 over Newton Flotman C, with a maximum for Colin Jenkinson, both doubles and a singles win each for the girls. The improving Wensum D team of Jason Evans, Daniel Atkins, Andrew Latham and Sean Bhadrinath were just too strong on the night for the Taverham E, winning 9-1 although Reg Juett saved the whitewash.

Champions elect Taverham B just edged home with a doubles win - (never a strong point for Norwich Union). Wayne Lubbock the star man for Taverham with an effective style that is difficult to play against. Taverham can now look forward to playing in the top flight of Norwich TT.

Panthers well deserved their victory and a double over Hellesdon. Mel Rooney was the star of the show with a hard working and fine maximum for the visitors. Aided by a usual maximum from the skipper Peter Mathieson, Panthers were well worth the three points.

Taverham B beat United Norwich Hospitals A 6-4.
A tight match with Adrian Turner gaining a fine maximum against the league leaders. Taverham had to win the doubles to secure three points and a one hand on the championship trophy.

Panthers beat Firstline Factors 6-4.
Panthers looked in trouble at 2-0 down and the 3-2 down, but they fought back and took the next 4 to lead 6-3. Harold Chapman was very close to gaining a maximum for the visitors with some excellent play.

Foxwood A march toward the title continues unabated with another impressive 10-0 win over Briston A, hightlight of the match was Jon Cockburn's comeback against Gerry Rudley after losing the first two games and being 8-5 down in the third he managed to sneak home in the third, then win the last to games. Steve Sadd was also made involved in a close match just getting home 11-8 in the fifth against Jon Hancock

Wensum C beat Shelly Telly 7-3.
Finally there's a point to Shelly Tellys' season! New girl Jeanette Baxter was able to convert Jenkinson's victories into a point for the team with a win against chocoholic Sean Bhadrinath. Wensum's Tony Zeqiri was in fine form beating Baxter and forcing Jenkinson to 5 sets before admitting defeat gracefully. The doubles matches were on the edge of your seat exciting. Baxter and Jenkinson played with predictable style and grace but it was Hicks rapid fire returns that were particularly impressive. Wensum's veteran Aubrey Willmott got his maximum, his experience outwitting the ever improving Cunningham and Savage. Young Stephen Harsleys brilliant backhand and lovely loop were a delight to see. Wensum C won 7-3.
