12/04/2010, played at Norwich Union Room, Miller Hall.
Choppers lost to St Faiths Centre 4-6.
This was not a match for the faint hearted, with so much at stake and a runners up spot up for grabs it was always going to be close. The first three matches taking over an hour. The Butcher brothers lost the 1st doubles to Nigel Metcalf and their top man on the night Mark Annetts. Then 4-2 to S.F.C. as Kevin & Steve kept their 100% duobles record intact. Back came Choppers to win the next 2 games to make it 4-4. Martin (Dolly up ) Butcher made it 5-4 to S.F.C. with a win over Bill. 5-5 looked like the final score when Paul Brown raced into a 2 nil lead against Kevin but in never say die attitude Kevin steam rooled his way back into the match to level at 2 all and take the 5th game to make it 6-4 and earn 'man of the match'

In the Grant Matthewson Norwich & District Table Tennis League, with the season drawing to a close, Wensum A need only 5 points to win the title from their three remaining games, this is assuming Foxwood A take 16 points from their remaining four games. In the battle at the bottom Hospitals A gained a draw against relegated Briston B with Howard Lupton inspiring Briston B with a maximum. However they suffered a heavy 8-2 defeat against CEYMS C who moved above them, Steve Pendle & Keith Hunt both with maximums for CEYMS C. Pride of place in Premier B goes to wooden spoonists Firstline Factors who achieved their first victory in the penultimate week of the season. Gritty performances from Peter Wright and Harold Chapman earned a welcome 6-4 victory against a struggling Nuorder B. Earlier in the week Firstline drew with Telephones A when skipper Alan Walpole turned on the style with an impressive maximum. At the other end of the table Wensum C kept up the pressure on UEA and Foxwood C after a 9-1 thumping of Sands and a 5-5 draw with Hellesdon. In the tie with Hellesdon, Wensum squandered a 4-1 lead as Mel Humphries lead a Hellesdon revival to keep their own unbeaten run going. In Division 1 Mary Sawyer played very well to take a brace of singles for Missionaries but, disappointingly, Andy Watson and Simon Halliday played well below par, and this allowed Briston to run out 8-2 winners. Andy Tuddenham won two singles for CEYMS D, who were without Andy Bonham, as they lost 7-3 to Returners, who look likely to finish runners up in the table. James Skilleter looked in a different class taking a maximum for Returners. Aaron Hacon securing a well earned maximum as Returners worked hard for a draw against Missionaries. Unfortunately, Aaron's team mates struggled and managed only one win between them. For Missionaries, Andy Watson and Richard Westgate picked up braces, and Mary Sawyer won one. Fairfields, still without a win, lost to a strong Gothic side who are back in second spot. Telephones C dented the Division 2 promotion hopes of SFC with a close 6-4 victory with Stuart Laws the deciding factor. Foxwood D are closing in on promotion after hammering Newton Flotman A 8-2. Choppers hold on to runners-up spot after comfortably beating Wensum E 7-3. The Division 3 team of the week undoubtedly Wensum 'F' beating top dogs Easton 6-4 and then imposing the biggest defeat of the season on promotion candidates YMCA. Stephen Harsley, Paul Edwards, Rachel Tooke and the greatly improved Liam Pye certainly played their socks off to gain the vital points and stir up the promotion battle. The other promotion contenders Ex Choristers 'B' maintained their push with a fine 7-3 away win against Remploy'B' where Geoff Critten impressed for Remploy 'B' saving a point with a fine maximum.
