Telephones put up a strong battle against the strong Hospitals with Bob Weston leading from the front.Chris Thirtle achieved an excellent win over experienced Roy Pells.

Taverham C beat EGC Tiles 6-4.
Taverham went 3-0 up - EGC rallied, fought back through Steve Johnson and then won the 1st doubles, coming back from 0-2 down. Game on as they say, after the tea and biscuits, Darren took a thrilling 18-16 first leg against JV, but the old warhorse fought back (for England and St George)and took the tie in four. Mike Minors first game with a maximum. Marsh gave Briston a real hard fight. Last singles gave BRiston the win.

Summary Match Report 3

In Premier A CEYMS B have continued their impressive start to the season with a 5-5 draw with Taverham A to consolidate third position. Lauren Spink was in good form for Taverham and was unbeaten on the night.

In premier B Panthers have hit the dizzy heights of being top of the table after a 5-5 draw with Hellesdon , Mel Humphries continued his good start to the season with a timely maximum of singles wins.

In division One Foxwood C have moved top after an 8-2 win over Briston D, Andrew Leeds in good form with a maximum. Fistline Factors who have beaten the leaders this season continue their good start with a 8-2 demolition of Easton A, Alan Walpole & Peter Wright weighing in with maximums.

In division two Taverham C extend their lead to 8 points after a close 6-4 win over RRMYC, Stuart Lines scoring a maximum to save Taverham`s blushes.

CEYMS D maintained their unbeaten start to the season after defeating ex-Choristers 8-2, Choristers taking both doubles to avoid the whitewash.

EGC Tiles managed to field their strongest team this season which resulted in a 7-3 win over Gothic D, Steve Johnson & Kevin Garner scoring maximums for EGC.

In division three Hospitals who have strength in depth scored a 7-3 win over Briston F to stay second and remain unbeaten.

Foxwood D are joint with Hospitals after a thumping 9-1 victory over Club 75, Ian Layt who was back playing after a 8 year absence rolled back the years with a maximum. John Creasey won the only game for Club 75 to avoid the whitewash.

Wensum C are top of division five after two big wins, they had a comfortable 9-1 win over HMC and then scored a 7-3 win over N F Eagles to inflict their first defeat of the season, the experienced John Williams scored a maximum for N F Eagles..

Sands B beat United Norwich Hospitals A 6-4.
Hospitals tool first three ties. Then Nev Beckett beat Bob lamb in the fifth set to make it 1-3. Darren Barnard restored the 3 game lead with victory over Phil Clarke. Sands then recovered to take the remaining 5 ties to finish 6-4 winners. Beckett and Ladmore taking the doubles after losing the first game on the deuce.

A very close match with four games going to five sets. Paul Chambers on fire at Number 3, with his second maximum of the season so far.

With James Thiess missing through injury Foxwood 'D'managed a good victory beating the Rams. Highlight of the evening was Wayne Dunthorne's five set win over Keith Parnell.Both Wayne and Ray Chipperfirld provided the maximum wins to take 3 points out of 4.

Club 75 had the better team on the night.Alan Barker, the Easton captain,won all his matches to gain a point for the home side - Easton's first point of the season.

25/10/2006, played at United Reform Church.
Hellesdon drew with Telephones B 5-5.
Who said that 11 up was going to spoil TT? On the evidence of this match with many games being won on the deuce it was full of incident. Played in a sporting manner, with no quarter asked or given it was Mark Ring of Telephones who took the honours with a fine maximum. Well supported by his team mates, Telephones fully deserved a draw. Graham King, coming back from 3-9 in the fifth against Roger Crossfield set his team off. Jeremy Cocks also played well, blocking and counter hitting to defeat John Howlett in the decisive ninth game. A great match!

Briston A lost to CEYMS B 3-7.
Another evening of boring TT. Robin & Browney was a cracking game -- dowhill after that. Hilary played like a donkey for two games - then played well against Jon who beat Browney. Up to 11 still a load of b------s, a net or edge way too meaningful. This game is dying slowly. We are at the Norman Centre next week - oh joy of joy!!!! A truly crap place to play!! (Jon Hancock)

UEA B lost to Scorpions A 0-10.
First whitewash of the season in the division. Scorpions too strong for the students. Stiff resistance from Emily Birt though losing in five to Janet Kelly.Dave Parker had to struggle against Chris Asque in the battle of the 1's, but won game 4 in the fifth to give the 10-0 score.

Closer match than the score suggests - some very tight games but CEYMS always had the edge.

Club 75 weakened by late call off of David Smith lost heavily to a strong Foxwood side. Game of the night between John Creasey and Wayne Dunthorne saw Wayne come back well after being 2-1 down to win 3-2.

An excellent exhibition of table tennis with a wide array of styles on show. Sean Molloy recovering from two sets down and match point to overcome Steve Howlett 12-10 in the last of five pulsating games. Steve gained some revenge by doing the same against fellow veteran Mick Broughton, edging home in five great sets of TT. Phil Logsdon in demolition form in his last day before entering the veteran ranks. Dave (no power) Henderson played well despite not feeling 100%.

A strong performance by the County Council side. Adam Gigli looked in good form for his three wins and Kevin Gray recovered well from two sets down to beat Owe Karlsson. Martin Gray claimed another three straight sets victories.

Park Lane B lost to Norfolk County Council A 1-9.
Adam Gigli and Martin Gray both claimed excellent maximums and combined to take the doubles to take maximum points for County Council. Steve Sadd commented that Park Lane B were outclassed on the night, but the scoreline could have been much tighter had Steve Annison not ground out a brace of wins. Returning to the top flight after a year beset by injuries, Annison was slow to adjust to the pace of Premier A, but recovered from 2-1 down against Steve Sadd to win 12-10 in the fifth and 2-0 down against Steve Gurton to win in five.

Scorpions B lost to Remploy B 3-7.
Veteran Geoff Critten led his team to victory with 3 wins, ably supported by the rest of his team. Good to see Peter Downing playing again.

Summary Match Report 2

Last week in premier B Hospitals A had to thanks Darren Barnard for an impressive performance in a 6-4 victory against Briston B. Barnard’s maximum included a fine a 12-10 fifth set win over John Paul.

Wally Ladmore was another man in good form & was the main reason why Sands who only fielded two players secured a draw against Taverham B.

Peter Mathieson of Panthers came from two sets down to overcome James Olsson to win 11-9 in the final set in his teams 7-3 win at Union B.

League president Bob King continued his fine early season form with a maximum against bottom side Telephones B.

In Division two Taverham C are the early pace setters after an impressive 9-1 victory over Millermen who were without their number one player Phil Baker.

CEYMS D played their first game of the season against NCC B and scored an impressive 7-3 victory over County Council B, Nanji Koria scored a maximum on his debut. Steve Annision matched that feat and scored a maximum for the losers.

Telephones C are in third place after a close 6-4 win over EGC tiles thanks to maximums from Bob Smith & Paul Broome.

In division three Hospitals C are top of the pile after a convincing win over Newton Flotman A, Foxwood D move up to third after inflicting a 8-2 defeat on Taverham D, this was their first defeat for over a year.

In division four Wensum B are still top of the league even though they lost 7-3 to Taverham E, Rod Edwards was in good form for Taverham.

Newton Flotman Eagles A are top of division five following their 9-1 win over Shelly Telly, John Williams was in great form for the eagles with a maximum.

Match Report - Panthers v Hellesdon

Panthers drew with Hellesdon 5-5.
Entertaining draw with Mel Humphries maintaining his fine early season form with another maximum display. Mel Rooney and Peter Mathieson keeping the home side in the match with some good wins. David Sprunt came good in the doubles, teaming up with Peter to earn a deserved draw and keep Panthers unbeaten run going.

Sands were left with an uphill struggle when Rhys Moore failed to arrive. 3 great wins from Wally ladmore and ! from Nev Beckett left Sands needing the doubles to square the match. After a tight first leg Sands got home in three sets to gain a draw.

Park Lane A beat Foxwood B 10-0.
Good effort from the newcomers to Premier A against the reigning champions. Paul Speakman showing grit and determination in his play to give Park Lane plenty to think about. Steve Howlett rather fortunate to overcome Speaky in five sets. Andrew Rice showing an array of fine attacking shots with Trevor Cockburn having problems with tennis elbow. David 'no power' Henderson giving a fine display of experienced controlled table tennis.

Another two good wins for Alan Hough who has settled comfortably into this division. Peter and I struggling rather more with the step up from Div 1. This was a very enjoyable match played in good humour but we are hoping for a closer result next time. Wally was formidable with his 'funny bat', confusing us all!!!! (Wendy D)

Hellesdon always looked in command, racing into a 6-2 lead, with Mel Humphries once again in top form. Union fought back well with Mark Trett in impressive form, winning the doubles to end up losing 4-6. Roger Crossfield still struggling to find his pre-season form.

Panthers drew with Norwich Union A 5-5.
Panthers looked dead and buried trailing 1-5, but a spirited fightback saw them take the remaining 4 games to secure a draw.

Week 1 Match Report Summary

The summer break has gone & passed and last week saw the start of the winter league for the newly named Pilch Intersport Norwich & District Table Tennis League

Off the table it is the start of a new area for the league with its first sponsor and new website

On the table, old habits die hard as last seasons Premier A champions , Park Lane A started their defence of their title in devastating form with a 9-1 victory over Gothic B. With all the Park Lane team now available for Veteran status this performance sets the benchmark for what could be another season of silverware and especially if Phil Logsdon who is currently ranked 36th in England is available for a most of the season.

Last years premier B champions Foxwood B also continued where they left off last season by beating Park Lane B 6-4, all three foxwood players grabbing a brace of wins each

In Premier B Taverham B who by their own admission were looking for a good season this year were blown away 9-1 by Briston B with only Lindsey Dare winning a singles to avoid the dreaded white wash.

CEYMS C who were relegated last season from Premier A after winning only one game have matched that feat in their opening fixture by defeating Norwich Union B who were promoted from Division one last season 7-3, Steve Pendle & Stuart Langridge were both unbeaten in their singles for CEYMS

In division two Taverham C have started off well with a 9-1 victory over Ex – Choristers B. Remploy A who struggled last season got a convincing 8-2 win over Gothic D who were promoted last season.

In division five Wensum C making their debut in this league made a dream start winning 10-0 against Newton Flotman Eagles B another team making their debut. Stan Baines played for the eagles and is currently the oldest registered player at 87

Park Lane B lost to Park Lane A 1-9.
Some excellent games of table tennis in this sporting encounter. Steve Sadd, making his first appearance of the season could not have faced a more difficult opponent in his very first game against Phil Logsdon who conceded only 10 points in three games. Steve lost a very close game to David Henderson in five but managed to beat the Park Lane skipper Steve Howlett, also in five tight games. The enigmatic Mark Wortley had Phil worried in four fine sets of TT.

Most of the games showed a lack of practice with many errors. However, as the evening went on the rallies improved with a couple of 5 set matches.3 wins from Wally and 2 each from Phil and myself left Sands needing the doubles to secure 4 points. A good start for the home side. (N Beckett)

Headlines - Cup Holders County Council fall at the first hurdle to Hospitals C. A classic handicap match between two sporting sides. Alan Pulsford held his nerve to take two crucial singles. Roy Pells played a cameo role in the doubles to take the match 5-3 in a tense final leg & Hospitals deservedly progress to the 2nd round.

Rosebery Road had Richard Yates and Vernon Everitt in fine form against Long Stratton who had Ashley Crowe winning a double.

Park Lane visited Taverham D, hoping to reverse last years defeat at the same stage of the competition. However, Stewart Lines and Gavin Ratcliff had other ideas, bothwinning a brace. Only Steve Howlett providing any real resistance. Phil Logsdon handicap rating proving too much to overcome.

Scorpions had Ivan Hewitt in good form in their win against Wensum B who had Marcus Pearson and Howard Jones showing some true potential.

Norwich Union were indebted to Phil Henry for a brace of wins against Remploy.

CEYMS C had an early bath against Hospitals A who took full adavantage of the handicap against a team from the same division.

Colin Jenkinson's double for Shelly Telly could not prevent the newcomers from going down to Missionaries who had Mary Sawyer and Dennis Elliott in sparkling form.

John Williams efforts for Newton Flotman Eagles could not stop Remploy B from marching on to the next round.

Foxwood, Tacerham C and EGC Tiles all progress after relatively straightforward wins.
